The concept and philosophy of the Helene Elsass Center is developed from a mutual collaborative effort by the Elsass Foundation and The CP-Center of The Danish Association of Cerebral Palsy. The knowledge and experience which over the years has been generated in CP-Center together with the distinct statement of the Elsass Foundation to sustain an active part and make a difference in the endeavours to improve the overall conditions for people with Cerebral Palsy creates the basis for the setting up of the Helene Elsass Center - colloquially known as Elsass Center.
Building a bridge
The fundamental mission of the concept is to establish an environment where it is equally natural to come and participate whether a user, a researcher or a professional. The aim is to create a bridge between scientific state-of-the-art expertise and the users who may benefit from that same know-how. The ambition is to make a difference - here and now - and in the future.
HISTORY
The history of Helene Elsass Center
In 2004 Ludvig & Sara Elsass Foundation decided to establish a center with the object of promoting development and research for people with Cerebral Palsy.
The center is situated in Charlottenlund just north of central Copenhagen. Here the Elsass Foundation initiated an extensive conversion and enlargement of an estate formerly used as conference facility.
Helene Elsass Center is named after the donor of the foundation Helene Elsass, she herself a sufferer of Cerebral Palsy. At her death she left a considerable fortune that today constitutes the economical basis of the Elsass Foundation.
Objective
The main objective of the foundation is to work for enhancement and general improvement of the conditions for people with Cerebral Palsy as well as families and relations. This is implemented on a wide front from research over dissemination of present knowledge to individual grants.
