AIMS & SCOPE
Philosophy
On the basis of a comprehensive view Elsass Center works for the stage of development where people with Cerebral Palsy are met with sufficient intervention strategies. The aim is that persons with Cerebral Palsy may obtain the optimal possibilities in relation to demands and expectations of the daily life.
Individual profile
It is an essential condition for the intervention strategy in Cerebral Palsy that the individual potentialities are thoroughly documented and evaluated. When a detailed documentation of the individual functional profile is available a goal-directed qualified and individual intervention strategy may be initiated.
Establishing an individual functional profile is the core objective of Elsass Center.
Background
Recent research provides the basis for a modified conception of Cerebral Palsy. Today the focus is turned towards describing and understanding Cerebral Palsy as a condition where the impairment in full solely may be explained from the documentation of the specific individual strengths and weaknesses. Following this line of thought may open up the prospect for people with Cerebral Palsy to gain a higher degree of participation in the many challenges and duties of life.
Participation
At present too many people with Cerebral Palsy seem marginalized and incapacitated from participating actively in school, education and working life. This is very likely due to the lack of documentation of the individual functional profile.
It is of appreciable importance for a good and harmonious life that both the person with Cerebral Palsy and the family as well as professionals acquire complete understanding of all the aspects of the condition and the affects on the individual.
Sufficient intervention
Documentation of the individual functional profile works as a fundamental basis for therapists, special teachers and other professionals to own the necessary information to extend and plan the sufficient intervention.
Cerebral Palsy is a condition that involves and affects the global functional profile in the person, however - and this must be emphasized - in an entirely individual manifestation. Therefore it is important that the individual functional profile is documented for each individual with Cerebral Palsy.
